The Easter Egg Hunt!

Yesterday we went to the annual Easter egg hunt that the HOA puts on in our neighborhood. The last two years it has taken place at the park down the street, but this year they held it at the other park in the neighborhood, which meant we had to drive there. We got there and saw all the Easter eggs set up and kids already there waiting to go. Now, I think that it's a great thing that the HOA does for the neighborhood, but the event could use some tweaking. First of all, the older kids' hunt took place on the flat grass of the soccer fields, meanwhile the younger kids (ages 1-2 and 3-4) took place in the play equipment part. Kids who were maybe just learning to walk had to manuever around the slides and on the uneven bark ground (lets not even talk about the fact that babies think bark is very tasty!). They even had some toy prizes on the swings. Hello, what one-year-old can reach that high?? It would have made more sense to have the younger kids on the flat ground where everything was in sight and have the older kids in the play structure where they could do more "hunting" for hidden eggs. My other slight complaint is the fillings in the eggs. Serena collected a couple eggs, but come on. She is not going to eat Twix and 3 Musketeers bars! They should put more baby/toddler friendly items in their eggs instead.
All that aside, the girls had fun. Serena was lucky to have turned one the day before so she could participate, but I'm sure she was the youngest and therefore, had no idea what was going on. She would pick up an egg and then put it back down. Or try to take the ones she already had out of her basket. Calli had a blast in her hunt. They blew the whistle and she took off running as fast as she could. When it was over we sat down in the grass to check out what everyone got and noticed that the chocolate candy was melted from sitting in the sun so long already. There was one candy that stayed unmelted that Calli was able to eat though. After doing that the girls played in the park for a bit and we just enjoyed the day.

Still waiting!

Ready, set, go!
